Burials at Milltown Cemetery, Falls Road, Belfast

PostSat Nov 01, 2014 8:51 pm

Hi, I have been using the Milltown Cemetery burial records on microfilm in PRONI to help me with my family tree.
I have found so much info on my families that I have been able to get back to the early/mid 1800s.
PRONI also hold the list of Milltown burial grants so it is possible to find out who purchased the plot & where they lived.
I have used the burial dates connected to my family to find family notices/insertions in the newspapers, another good source of info. Some of the insertions connected to my family included addresses. I thought about it for a while but then decided to send a letter, this led me to meeting up with new found relatives. I apologised for the way I found them but they didn’t mind & now we have a better understanding of our family, along with photos & we are now friends!!!
I have some burial info on the names below.

Hi, no mention of Tyrone.
The place of death is given as where death occured: home, hospital/workhouse, others houses, in the street, on board a ship etc...

Hi, if I respond to your query please could you double check details either with Milltown Cemetery or newspaper insertions.
Sometimes the microfilm is really hard to read & I may have misread details.
Also, some of the entries can be upsetting so I will PM details & you can decide to post results if you wish.

Sad but true that burial registers often are a really useful resource for tree-searchers.
With GRONI going online it is possible to buy death certs for £2 if you are 100% sure the burial record matches your family.

OMG!! I could kiss you LGC, all those Magill's are mine, on Patrick's DC it say Bonar street, but I cannot find a Bonar street on street directories. My Magill moved around alot roughly in the same area though, I found them in Disraeli st, Leopard st, Crumlin st, Glenview st, Brookfield st, Butler st, Mayfair st was the last street they actually settle in.

The Mulhollands
1907 Mulholland Michael 32 yrs North Queen Street (mine)
1911 Mulholland Hugh 68 yrs North Queen Street (mine)
1908 Mulholland Maggie 6 yrs Shore Street (blurry) (mine)
1918 Mulholland Michael 11 yrs Whiteabbey Sanitorium (could be mine)
1914 Mulholland Eliza 33 yrs Union Infirmary (could be mine)
I'll have to checkout the rest, don't think Daniel is one of mine, the Mulhollands were as bad as the Magill for moving around, found them in Shore st,Nelson st, Ship street, ship street back, New Dock street, New Andrew st, Mineral st, North Queen st

These Mulhollands are all mine
1907 Mulholland Michael 32 yrs North Queen Street
1908 Mulholland Maggie 6 yrs Shore Street (blurry)
1911 Mulholland Hugh 68 yrs North Queen Street
1914 Mulholland Eliza 33 yrs Union Infirmary
1918 Mulholland Michael 11 yrs Whiteabbey Sanitorium

Hugh was the father of Michael aged 32, that's Michael's wife Eliza & 2 of their children

Checked out these 3 and they are not mine.
1909 Mulholland Ellen 70 yrs Nelson Street
1912 Mulholland Daniel 2 yrs 6 mths North Street
1918 Mullholland Patrick 3 wks North Queen Street
I thought Ellen may have been a connection, as the above Hugh's son Hugh died 1895 in 50 Nelson street

I've just realize the wee stillborn baby must be in the bog meadows, as he/she would not of been baptised, there would be no record of its birth or death, so I'll never know whether it was a boy or girl. Only for you finding it burial record I would never of known it existed, so really sad how these wee innocent babies were treated god bless them  :x

Hi, I haven't been to PRONI to check burial registers but haven't forgot about looking for the Meek names.
On GRONI there is this info:

William Meek 30.11.1942 aged 70 yrs
Ellen Meek 13.11.1949 aged 71yrs
William Meek 17.07.1941 aged 2 yrs
Francis Meek 11.04.1941 aged 6 yrs

Could these be the right family?
