That's one of the advantages of registering ... even if any guest can read the posts sure the board can't know what posts a guest has seen and what posts they haven't - as a registered user you're shown new posts.

The other, and maybe even bigger, advantage of registering is that it allows you to post yourself of course

Most of this forum is public - nevertheless "read only" for the public.

With your registration you have gained the option to post yourself, original posts as well as comments and replies to posts by others. So please make use of this ability, join in and discuss or share information.

For those not yet familiar with this type of forum (phpBB) there are some hints here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=158

Moreover we offer some special features "on request" only - as e.g. creating private trees.
Not a thing we would recommend, for public sharing dramatically increases the possibility that someone might have some valuable information to add to your tree .... however in case someone feels they can't go public with their tree (maybe they are ashamed of some "illegitimate" births in it, or fear their relatives wouldn't want this kind of stuff published) there's a possibility of creating private space where only the one requesting this space and people named by them have access, plus the admins of course, but no other users and no anonymous guests viewing this website will ever even notice that such spaces exist at all.
As I said, not a thing to be recommended, but an option in case someones declines to post at all if it's publicly visible.
